Editing Lesson Blog

Editing

Today in class we learned about the editing process and learned how to work our editing software pinnacle studios. The teacher showed us how to work a camera, as well as the tripod. She taught us about SD cards and how they work with the camera. She also taught us the basic maneuvers of the camera, like recording, turning on and off, and screen gestures. Then, she taught us how to work the tripod. She first extended it out to make it taller. Later she showed us how to put the camera on the tripod itself.

Next, the teacher began to show us how to import the footage into our computer. We must create a folder on the desktop for our specific project, and “dump” all the footage from the SD card and onto the folder on the desktop. She showed us how to navigate inside the files of the SD, like DCIM and AVCHD.

Later, she taught us how to use the editing software. We will be using Pinnacle Studios for our editing process. She demonstrated how to create a new movie and how to import our footage into the editing program to begin our editing. When we import our footage into the program, it is called “raw footage” which means that it is the raw takes and media we took with the camera before editing. We learned about the layers of the editing program. AV1 is the Titles, AV2 is the Film, AV3 is the Music. This will be important for making our commercial and any other project because the layers matter since it determines what will be shown on screen.

Then, we were shown little tools about the editing program. One of which was “split clip” which has a little razor blade shape. This tool splits the clip into two separate clips that can be edited and modified seperately. Later, she showed us the tools that appear when you right click on a clip. One of the tools is the “open effects editor.” This is where you go to add any titles, change contrast and lighting, and transitions.

Finally, we learned how to save our product onto the desktop. This doesn’t mean that the project is completely done, since it can still be edited for any later changes. She also showed us how to reopen our project and open it again whenever we want to make any adjustments.
