Editing the Commercial

On the same day when we finished our shooting, we began to edit our commercial. We decided to bring home my laptop from home and to use iMovie to edit our film. My partner Macy used her SD card for the camera. We put in her SD card into my computer and moved the files onto my flash drive. Then we took out the SD card so we only had to worry about carrying around my flash drive. Then, with all the files in the flash drive, we sorted out which takes we’re going to make it into the commercial. We made a separate folder with the good takes in them, as well as the song we will be using and a Vans logo. We made sure that we would have enough footage to reach a 25 seconds minimum and 30 seconds maximum. There was a total of about 12 takes used.

We imported all of the media into iMovie to being with. We rearranged them into the order we wanted the commercial to be in. When editing, the first scene with the shoes, we adjusted the lighting and exposure in it to make it more bright. We clipped the scene to cut it off as soon as the person walking gets off frame. In the next scene, we also cut it so it starts just a second before I walk on frame, and cuts off right as I walk off. We also adjusted the lighting in this scene to make it more bright. After this scene, the scene with the skateboard starts. I cut off the beginning when Mariapaula struggles to get on the skateboard, and the end when she gets off. We tried to make this scene as short as possible. This scene also had the lighting adjusted to match the other scenes.

Then, in the scene the follows, Mariapaula kicks the skateboard up and catches it. This scene was also edited to be short, as it plays directly after the scene she gets on the skateboard. The lighting in this scene was also edited to be more bright and to fit the other scenes. Next, we clipped the nest take to be shorter. The parts where Macy says to start and when we walk back were clipped off. The scene right after of Macy walking up the stairs was also clipped. Next, we had the scenes with the shoes. We clipped the scenes off between shoes to transition smoothly between each other. Whenever someone with one shoes walked off, we added another scene with a different pair of shoes walking in. Then Mariapaula covers the screen with her shoe, which was clipped to fit. This then cuts to the back of my shoe walking up the stairs. We added the Vans logo on top of this scene.
